Broadway's Best for Parkinson's—Caregiving: Beyond the Obvious
Join us for the launch of a new series offering education, entertainment, and awareness to those living and thriving with Parkinson's Disease. Award-winning journalist Lesley Stahl co-hosts the first Broadway’s Best for Parkinson’s program, along with Dr Alessandro DiRocco, director of the movement disorders program at Northwell Health, and Caroline Kohles, JCC senior director of Health and Wellness.

"Caregiving: Beyond the Obvious" will look at the unspoken challenges of being a caregiver—depression, lack of resources, the need to develop coping skills, and concerns such as "What if I pass away first?"— as well as how to handle frustration, a decline in empathy, and even abuse. Joining the conversation will be Grammy nominated singer/songwriter and actress Suzanne Vega, whose mother Pat lives with Parkinson's, and Broadway, film, and television actor Chris Jones, who has lived with PD for 19 years. Ian Feurtado will present Drums for Parkinson's (a joint offering with the Friedberg JCC), demonstrating how strong movement, music, and rhythm can be fun tools to improve well-being and manage emotions for both caregivers and those living with PD.

This program is made possible by a community grant from the Parkinson’s Foundation. It is endorsed by Northwell Health and is part of the Edmond J Safra wellness program at the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan
